| The last update of year 2005 AKA "Life sucks and then you die": What a weird and fucked up year it has been. A year ago I seriously thought that there would be no more line-up changes in Spirit Disease, and that our next CD would be recorded and released during 2005. Was I wrong? Fuck yeah. Around February things already started to go wrong - it was totally impossible to get us all to the rehearsal place at the same time and it only got worse all the time. It was all about a very time-consuming job which demands flying around the world all the time. And that's OK - a man has to earn a living or he is no man at all, and if you tried to earn a living with Spirit Disease you would definitely starve to death! Actually I could lose some weight so perhaps I should quit my dayjob and try to live with the music only... ;) Anyway, all this lead to Taskula's departure from the band in early May. That sucked ass. But no hard feelings. Life goes on. Well, Taskula was quickly replaced by Tuberculosis and things looked fine again. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Mattila had had this weird illness for a few years already but during the summer his situation got much worse and he was ordered by his doctor to quit playing drums in early August. Well, what can you do in a situation like that apart from selling your gear and quitting the band? Nothing. This was the worst blow under belt yet and for a while I thought that this might seriously be the end of SD. Thank Satan we found Toivonen rather quickly. It's always hard for the remaining members of a band when someone leaves, but honestly a lead singer/screamer is much easier to replace than a drummer. At least it takes a lot longer to get the band really tight again when you replace the drummer with someone else. It's a lot of hard work and beer drinking and all that heavy metal bullshit. Anyway, since September '05 things have been improving and right now we are very good. Seriously. Too bad that we couldn't really play live that much during 2005, but with all the line-up shit it would have been fucking impossible. Period. For 2006 our plans include the recording sessions of our next CD. The earliest possible chance for us to do this is in April, but it's not 100% sure yet - things might get delayed again. Also the record label shit has to be dealt with and we'll just have to wait and see which label will relase the next slab of SD crap. Probably not Vortex Motions Records anyway. Perhaps we will try to play a few gigs too, if some good shows come up. But that all remains to be seen. Have a shitty new year. :) |

| After a few delays the new Miasma Magazine and the compilation CD featuring our new song Defenceless Prey is now available everywhere around Finland. Buy it now and don't forget to call our music shit and insult us in our guestbook! The new and improved (?) line-up of SD is getting really good, so perhaps we'll finally get to record our next CD early next year. Or not. Who knows? |
| A new SD interview done by Quintessence Magazine can be read HERE. |
| Spirit Disease song Defenceless Prey will be featured on a compilation CD distributed for free together with Miasma Magazine. The magazine & the CD will be available in November. |
| Three new Spirit Disease songs are now available from the FILES section of this site. The sound quality is quite raw, but the songs are fucking good (at least that's what I think about them). Check them out. |
| We will be mixing the new shit on 25 September, so all of you waiting for some new songs by us (is there actually anyone out there waiting for new SD shit?) - get ready for some more horrible noise! Only few days to go. I just added a small info page about our new drummer Toivonen, so in case you happen to be interested about who the fuck is he, why don't you just click HERE. |
| Everything's recorded now and we only have the mixing left to do. It might take a while, since we can't do it in our so-called "studio". Anyway, get ready to download some new SD shit from this website soon. At the moment it seems that a Finnish compilation CD that will be released in November will feature one of our new songs, but that's not 100% certain yet. More about that later if it actually happens. |
| Despite some technical problems with ancient computer technology (really!) we managed to record all the rhythm guitars for the pre-production demos yesterday. I suppose that we might get the bass & vocals & rest of the guitars recorded next weekend. Unless things go wrong in our usual Spinal Tap-kind of way. Spirit Disease has a new drummer. His name is Toivonen and like the rest of the guys in the band, he is a very experienced musician. More information about him later. |
| Things are looking a bit better here at Camp SD. We started recording the pre-production demos on 1 September and Mattila did a really good job in his last session ever. He has now sold all his gear and is officially retired from this music thing. Anyway, we will continue to record guitars & probably the bass this weekend at our own "studio". What about the next SD drummer, then? Well, we are quite happy about this drummer that we have found, but nothing is certain yet. Maybe he'll join the band, maybe not. It remains to be seen. |

| Sometimes being a musician sucks. Most of the times being a musician in Spirit Disease sucks even more and at the moment everything sucks so badly that I feel like killing myself. Mattila has been having health problems for a long time already, but yesterday he was forced to make a decision between getting just worse or quitting drumming forever. The result is like this: from this day on we have no drummer anymore. Despite his doctor's warnings Mattila has agreed to record some demos of our new songs with us as a session member, but that's it then - he will sell all his gear and retire from this music thing for good. Those demos should help the next Spirit Disease drummer's job in learning all the songs and once they're recorded we'll be putting some of them here for you to download. We will start searching for a new drummer immediately, so everyone who thinks he's capable of playing this kind of music is welcome to get in touch with us. We want to thank Mattila for all the work he has done for us. All this most likely moves the recording sessions of our next album and possible gigging further into the future. This fucking bullshit also means that on the next CD there will be only two guys left from the line-up that recorded Redemption Denied. It really feels weird. |
| Two new songs now have lyrics & titles, so now we have 10 finished songs out of 12 that we're planning to record for our next CD. The incomplete tracklisting goes like this: The rest of the songs actually exist too as very early rough versions but it's still too early to say whether or not they'll appear on the album. |

| A Spirit Disease interview is now online at Blackfuel.nl. Click HERE to read it. Oh, by the way, it's written in Dutch, so unless you speak the language you might have some trouble understanding it. Yeah, a bad joke, I know... What else? Well, more reviews are coming in all the time, so you might want to read some of those. It's been really funny and quite weird how different the reviews have been - some think that Redemption Denied is a fucking great CD, but others say that it is a total piece of shit. We have been categorized in many different ways: "old school death metal", "melodic death metal", "death/thrash", "thrash" and so on. We have also been compared to lots of different bands and all that crap. Fun to read, at least for us in this rather unknown band called Spirit Disease, and maybe a bit interesting for some of you out there. Since we still haven't recorded any of our new stuff, I suppose it would be a good thing to reveal some song titles from our forthcoming CD (to be released sometime before the year 2666 or something): There's a few more untitled ones ready too. Still something more: Redemption Denied can be bought from many online stores, but our T-shirts can be bought only from the Vortex Motions Records website. So if you want to buy one, do it now. |
| No recordings will be done during this month, unlike written in the previous news update. So it's yet another unexpected schedule change for us. Maybe we'll start recording something during the next couple of months, but it depends on lots of other things which won't be mentioned here. |
| Spirit Disease has now a new lead singer. The guy we have chosen to replace Taskula wants to be known as Tuberculosis. He's an experienced screamer who's done lots of live and studio work with various bands. Besides Spirit Disease, Tuberculosis will continue to scream with his other band Witheria. Now that we have a full line-up again, we can continue our work with our new songs. If everything goes as planned, we should start recording some rough demos before July. But that remains to be seen - we've had more than our fair share of total bullshit happening to us before... |
| Just in case you haven't already noticed, we'd like to inform all you bastards out there in the cyberspace that lots of new reviews of Redemption Denied have been added to the site. Click HERE to read them. Anything else? Well, we're starting to "test drive" this new potential lead singer of Spirit Disease next weekend. That should be fun. More news about that later. |
| Mattila's hand is quite OK now, so we are able to rehearse again. We also may have found ourselves a new lead singer! If things go as planned and the guy doesn't turn out to be a complete asshole, his name will be announced here within a few weeks or so. |
| More bad news. Taskula has left the band today. He left the band for personal reasons, so there's not really any big stories to tell. No fights or "musical differences" or any of the usual crap one expects when someone leaves a band. We will remain friends and that is the most important thing. We want to thank him for all the work he did with us and also for all the great times we had together. We will continue as a four-piece band (Sallanen, Koskinen, Riikonen & Mattila) until we find a new singer to sing on our next CD and gigs. It will be hard to replace Finland's best extreme metal singer, but you can be sure that we will not choose just any shitty shouter to take Taskula's place. The only good news at the moment is the fact that Mattila's hand is getting better and the remaining 4 members of Spirit Disease will be back in action soon. The line-up is Spirit Disease mark 6 already... change is inevitable. |
| Fuck this shit! Mattila has got tendonitis in his left hand and in order to get the hand working properly again, his doctor has told him to not to play drums for a while. Obviously this will slow Spirit Disease down, or more correctly: this will stop our rehearsing right now. This also means that our recording plans are put on hold for a while and that there won't be any rough demos of our new material for you to download from this site anytime soon. The situation sucks but there's nothing we can do about it... anyway, we will not be searching for a new drummer to replace Mattila, instead of that we will just wait. I (Sallanen) had tendonitis a few years ago and I just kept on playing my bass and my hand just got more and more fucked up. In the end it had to be operated, and for a while it seemed that I would never be able to play again. I wouldn't want that to happen to any musician. This is why we prefer waiting instead of finding a replacement. |
| We're almost finished with this songwriting shit. Once everything is ready (including the lyrics, obviously), we will announce the song titles of our next CD. A new info site about us has been opened by Finnish Metal Webzine. Click here to check it out. The Redemption Denied mCD is now available from many online stores, so if you haven't already bought your copy, click on one of the links below to buy it! Firebox Swamp Music Free Record Shop Finland Airon Musiikki Red Stream Twilight Vertrieb G.U.C. |
| It's been a while since the last update... but who gives a shit? Anyway, we have been writing new songs for our next CD, and at the moment we have 9 new songs, so we still have to make 3 more. After that we will start recording rough demos of them at our rehearsal place. We might put a few demo songs online for you to check out, probably in late April/early May. All this shit means that we will have to spend a part of next summer locked inside a studio trying to record our next album. But summer is quite gay anyway... who needs sunshine? ;) All this also means that we will not be playing gigs for a while. It's better to concentrate in trying to make all the new stuff really good. The album has to be "all killer, no filler", if you know what I mean. |

| Quite good gig at Kouvola last Saturday. Thanks to the organizers, the audience and especially all the other bands that played there. Some kind of a gig report coming later to the gigs section of this site. Our record label Vortex Motions has signed a worldwide distribution deal for our mini-CD a few weeks ago, so that should probably help people trying to find our music outside of Finland a bit. |

Exact showtimes & details will be posted here as soon as we get them. Check out the GIGS-section of this site for more info about the gig. Today is the birthday of Sallanen and Mattila. Really. Weird but true. The old farts of SD are getting even older! HA! |
